The Kingdom of Faeries is ruled by a beautiful Queen
Probably some of the best known fairies are those found in Shakespeare's Midsummer's Night Dream

Puck's Song
by William Shakespeare
Taken from a Midsummers Night's Dream
Either I mistake your shape and making quite,
Or else you are that shrewd and knavish sprite
Called Robin Goodfellow.
Are you not he that fights
the maidens of the villagery;
Skim milk, and sometimes labor
in the quern,
And bootless make the
breathless housewife churn;
And sometimes make the drink
to bear no barm;
Mislead night wanders,
laughing at their harm?
Those that Hobgoblin call you,
and sweet Puck,
You do their work,
and they shall have good luck.

Mistress for a Fairy King
Taken from the Enchanted World, Fairies and Elves
Etain won the attention of Midhir - a King amoung the Tuatha De Danann - who wooed her in secret promising to take her to his invisible realm. Swayed by his singing, she agreed, but she said that her husband must give her leave.
Midhir bided his time for a year, then he appeared at the Eochaid's stronghold. "Who are you"" asked the lord. "Midhir of Bri Leith"
"Why have you come?"
"To play at fidchell with you"
Fidchell was a game like chess, played on a silver board with golden men, and Eochaid prided himself on his skill at it. He agreed to play, but only for a stake. Midhir smiled and set it:
fifty dark horses with blood red heads. Midhir lost, and by the next dawn, Eochaid had his horses. Then they played again for a richer stake, which included fifty fiery boats and fifty swords with golden hilts. Again Midhir lost, and again Eochaid got his booty. They decided to play a third time. When Eochaid asked the stake, Midhir said, "Whatever the winner names." Eochaid greedily agreed. This time Midhir won. He set the stake his arm around Etain and a kiss from her lips. Epchaid hesitated, but in honor he had no choice. He promised to deliver Etain in one month's time. When Midhir arrived on the appointed day, he found Eochaid and Etain in the castle couryard, surrounded by Eochaid's warriors. But the ranks parted as the King stroke through. Midhir shifted his weapons from his right hand to his left and put his right arm around Etain. Effortlessly, the two rose into the air, higher and higher, until they were mere specks, two swans flying across the countryside, toward Midhir's bright land. Thus began a war between mortaland fairy, but Midhir kept his mortal mistress.

The Fairy Pendant
by William Butler Yeat
Scene: A Circle of Druidic Stones
First Fairy:
Afar from our lawn and our levee,
O sister of sorrowful gaze!
Where the roses in scarlet are heavy
And dream of the end of their days.
You move in another dominion
And hang o'er the histoned stone:
Unpruned in your beautiful pinion
Who wander and whisper alone. All Come away while the moon's in the woodland,
We'll dance and then feast in a dairy
Though youngest of all in our good band,
You are wasting away, little fairy.Second Fairy:
Ah! cruel ones, leave me alone now
While I murmur an little and ponder
The history here in the stone now.
Then away and away I will wander,
And measure the minds of the flowers,
And gaze on the meadow-mice wary,
And number their days and their hours--All:
You're wasting away, little fairy.Second Fairy:
O shining ones, lightly with song pass,
Ah! Leave me, I pray you and beg.
My mother drew forth from the long grass
A piece of a nightengale's egg,
And cradled me here where are sung,
Of birds even, longings for aery
Wild wisdoms of spirit and tongue. All:
You are wasting away little fairy.First Fairy {turning away}
Through the tenderest roses were round you,
The soul of this pitiless place
Woth pitiless magic ahs bound you--
Ah! Wpe for the loss of your face,
And the loss of your laugh with its lightness--
Ah! Woe for your wings and your head--
Ah! Woe for your slippers of red. All:
Come away while the moon's in the woodland,
We'll dance and then feast in a a dairy.
Though youngest of all in our good band,
She's wasting away, little fairy.

The Fairy Lover
by Moireen Fox
It is by yonder thorn that I saw the fairy host
(O low night wind, O wind of the west!)
My love rode by, there was gold upon his brow,
And since that day I can neither eat nor rest.I dare not pray lest I should forget his face
(O black north wind blowing cold beneath the sky!)
His face and his eyes shine between me and the sun:
If I may not be with him I would rather die. They tell me I am cursed and I will lose my soul,
(O red wind shrieking o're the thorn-grown dun!)
But he is my love and I go to him to-night,
Who rides when the thorn glistens white beneath the moon.He will call my name and lift me to his breast,
(Blow soft O wind 'neath the stars of the south!)
I care not for heaven and I fear not hell
If I have but the kisses of his proud red mouth.
